Mirka Novak 4tet

Project started in 2013 in the USA. The repertoire refers to significant jazz composers (such as Wayne Shorter, Chick Corea, Miles Davis, Thelonious Monk, A. C. Jobim, H. Hancock, Gretchen Parlato, etc.) that Mirka Novak reshapes into her own renditions.

The sound fuses jazz, soul and latin influences spiced with groove. Members of the band change according to where Mirka Novak performs.

On this project has already collaborated: Federico Gonzalez Pena, Tarus Mateen, Edward Miles, David Jernigan, Dave Manley, Nick J. Lewis, Ivan Audes, Daniel Bulatkin, etc.

Mirka Novak solo
(loop station)

The unique concept of this solely vocal project was created on a loop station mostly as an exploration of Mirka Novak’s authentic self. Every song is typical for its atmosphere, partially improvised, partially pre-written without using words. Everyone can naturally find themselves within because of its ability to express various human emotions. Thanks to the wide range and precise rhythmical sense, Mirka is able to create multiple layers and poly-rhythmical patterns using beatbox.

In this project, Mirka sends out freedom of expression. She experiments with all kinds of colors that a human voice is able to produce and accepts it fully. In 2022, Mirka is releasing her debut album with this project featuring various top-notch artists from the Czech Republic.

Dozen street

R’n’B‘ soul jazz band formed in 2015 after one very successful show at Andel Music Club in Pilsen (CZE). The repertoire consists of Mirka Novak’s originals that were recorded in the USA and other songs influenced by the R’n’B music scene (Erykah Badu, Jill Scott, Robert Glasper, D’Angelo, Lalah Hathaway, Lauryn Hill, J Dilla, etc.).

The band has performed two successful shows with Grammy nominee, the American drummer David „Fingers“ Haynes in 2017 and 2019.

Members: Mirka Novak – lead vocals, Martin Adamovsky – guitar, Jan Techl – keys, Daniel Eberle – bass, Jaroslav Minar – drums, Tereza Antonova and Lucie Hajickova – backing vocals.

HLASkontraBAS octet

In 2016, singer Ridina Ahmedova and contrabassist Petr Tichy released the album HLASkontraBAS, which was nominated for the Andel Music Award the same year. The compositions are based solely on a female voice and an acoustic double bass. With the help of a loop station, individual melodic lines are layered, creating a polyphonic composition.

HLASkontraBAS octet is a unique ensemble that extends this project into real voices. It consists of eminent Czech musicians in a lineup of 4 voices and 4 contrabasses. Songs are newly arranged to enable taking full advantage of the potential of a live performance.

Prague Connection / Pilsen Connection

This band has been performing in a jazz underground scene in Prague since 2015: Filip Spaleny (bass), Jakub Dolezal (keys), Michael Nosek (drums). In the past, the band has worked with different frontmen. It reached its final form in May 2017 when singer Mirka Novak got invited right after she returned from the USA. Prague Connection is a unique fusion of the best local musicians playing a repertoire full of fine soul, jazz and funky (Bill Withers, Roy Hargrove, The Temptations, Michael Jackson or Marvin Gaye).
